Pantone Color of the Year | Greenery Wedding Inspiration

Every year, wedding professionals wait with baited breath to see what Pantone will say their Color of the Year will be.  For those of you unfamiliar, Pantone is kind of the industry standard for color choice with designers + printers.  And, for many trendsetters in fashion, the wedding industry, and beyond you’ll find that their announcement of the ‘color of the year’ can really play a role in the designs + decor to come.  After the announcement, there’s usually a battled out murmur of complaints versus positive praise for how the color will be used. Fortunately, for all of our sake, this year’s color is an easy one to love!  As Midwesterners look forward to warmer weather + the first signs of spring, we can easily brainstorm how we’ll use this year’s bright greenish hue: GREENERY!

Inspired by nature.
Totally easy to implement with floral design + easily complimented with other bright colors or neutral tones!

This is my first post for the Corridor Wedding Guide, and I’m so honored to be here.  But I’m especially thrilled that they’re letting me share this editorial shoot captured at the historic Ned Ashton House in Iowa City by myself + my team at The Modern Lovebird!  This vision came together with the incredible help of Brenda Strief at Town or Country Events and was furthered by the full team of vendors that pitched in on our vision.   Moreover, it’s so full of lush greenery and definitely has us thinking spring!  We paired the bright green shades with more neutral colors — ivory, cream, and deeper greens — in an effort to hit a classic aesthetic at a modern fête.  It was truly a shoot where the florals played a large part! Special thanks to Abbey + Shelbey at HyVee Johnson Ave’s Floral Department for bringing our ideas to life.  A long garland of greenery was juxtaposed with gold-potted herbs, while mercury glass + gold candlesticks at varied heights brought in what would easily be gorgeous ambiance as the sun went down.  Mismatched chairs with an English wooden family table + ivory linens helped the setting feel extra inviting for family + friends.  And… can we please talk about how easy + impactful the menus wrapped around baguettes are?! We loved this touch!  Pass the bread, please?! Oh, wait. It’s right here!

As we sit looking out the window at an unseasonably warm winter day, I hope you are just as excited about these bright greens as I am!  All you’ll need to add is a little love + sunshine to get this look. Enjoy!

Is there an element here that you want to include in your day? (Seriously! Menu-wrapped baguettes!? Right?! …Or that vintage silverware + the mixed metallic candle holders? Or how about the bride’s wedding dress with pockets?!) What do you think of the Pantone Color of the Year? What colors would you pair with ‘Greenery’?

We can’t wait to hear your ideas! And, of course, if you’re still on the hunt for great vendors please check out the list below. This was seriously a powerful lineup!

About Robyn Aaron

I’m a hugger! I’m also a Chicago suburbs gal who stayed in Iowa after college + fell in love with a boy from Kansas. We’re total Midwesterners! (Trust me. We tried the east coast for a bit!) I’m also the owner + principal photographer at The Modern Lovebird (formerly Robyn Photo) and will capture my 100th wedding this year! When I set the camera down, I’m probably drinking coffee and snuggling my two daughters or meeting up with friends for sushi + wine. I adore collaborating with incredible couples + colleagues in the wedding industry to create beautiful memories, so I’m so glad to contribute to the Corridor Wedding Guide this year.
