Rustic Americana Wedding

Steph & Tim
September 2016

Steph and Tim got married on Labor Day weekend so it was only fitting their theme was Rustic Americana with a red, white, and blue color palette. It was a charming Iowa wedding full of love and great inspiration. Appleby Photography took great photos to share.

How they first met…
Steph met Tim at a Bachelor Auction event held by his rugby team, the Denver Barbarians. Tim was bachelor #5 and she “bought” him for $45!
How they knew they were meant to be…
Steph and Tim went to an Alabama concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado after dating for 7 months. Alabama is one of their favorite bands, and the whole time they danced and sang to the show. They both had an amazing time with one another and knew right there that they would get married.
The proposal…
Steph and Tim moved to Iowa from Colorado after dating for a little over a year, and bought a house together. On their closing date they entered the house together with a bottle of champagne from their realtor, but didn’t bring glasses. Tim told Steph to look in the kitchen cabinets for a left over glass or cup, and when she did she found a glass half full of water with a small Jack Daniels bottle in it. When she turned to show Tim what she found he got on one knee and said, “You’re the whiskey in my water, will you marry me?”.

Most memorable wedding moments…
There were so many memorable moments! Steph’s Grandfather gave a heartwarming toast to the couple that was very meaningful to both Steph and Tim. Tim and his three brothers performed a choreographed dance to “I Want it That Way” by the Backstreet Boys, which was hilarious. Tim’s rugby teammates also performed a “haka”, which is a traditional chant or war cry from the New Zealand indigenous people, the Maori. During celebrations it is a sign of love, peace and respect.

Steph and Tim’s advice for other couple’s getting married…
We really wanted our wedding to be a celebration not just for us but for our family and friends, showing them how much they mean to us. Our advice would be to keep the reason for marriage at the center of your wedding, and not get caught up in the pomp and circumstance that makes weddings stuffy and impersonal.

About Nicky Wilkinson

I’m proud to say I’m an Iowa farm girl from Swisher. I married my college sweetheart, Dale Wilkinson, and we have five girls. We live in the country with our cats and dog. Camping, canoeing, horseback riding and biking are some of our favorite activities. Our girls keep us busy with plenty of school activities and hobbies. I took over The Wedding Guide in August of 2014. I am inspired everyday by our local venues and dedicated wedding professionals. They are hard working and very talented. I get the opportunity to share that inspiration with couples to help them plan for their best day ever.
