Get to know the people behind Corridor Wedding Guide.™
Nicky Wilkinson, CEO and Publisher
I’m proud to say I’m a native to Iowa and its corridor. I grew up on a farm in Swisher and graduated from Prairie High School. I went on to study at St. Ambrose University where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Minor in Psychology. I married my college sweetheart, Dale Wilkinson and we have five girls! We live in the country with our cats and dog. Camping, canoeing, biking, and hanging out with our family and friends are some of our favorite activities. Our girls keep us busy with plenty of school activities and hobbies.
The Wedding Guide
I took over the Wedding Guide in the fall of 2014. Our local wedding professionals helped me make this guide wedding for you. They are very talented and want to help you in planning your best day ever. It is my job to share that talent and inspiration with couples every day. I am always impressed by our local creatives here in the Corridor!
Barb Thompson, Art Director and Design, and Contributing Writer
Just a small town girl… I grew up in Keystone, Iowa, 30 miles west of Cedar Rapids. I have always enjoyed anything artistic, which is why I choose Graphic Design at Iowa State University. I married my high school sweetheart after college, and we settled in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. I worked for two companies as an in-house designer, before making the decision to become a stay-at-home mom. My husband’s job brought us to Cedar Rapids, and closer to family. I have enjoyed being a freelance designer from home ever since my daughter was born.
For me, being creative is a way of life. If not on the computer, it’s in the kitchen, in the yard, or making silly projects with my two kids. When we get the chance, we love traveling to visit family and friends. I cherish my family and love spending time with them!
The Wedding Guide
The Wedding Guide was an exciting project presented to me a few years ago that became my passion. Each year, I look forward to seeing new photographs of couples, following the wedding trends, and anticipating what’s next in the wedding industry. I love seeing copies of our wedding guide at all our vendor locations!
Becky Appleby, Business Owner, Freelance Writer and Photographer
When you’re from the Midwest, it’s hard to stray too far from home. I grew up in eastern Iowa before heading off to college, where I majored in photography. Shortly after getting married, my husband and I moved to Madison, Wisconsin to start our photography studio. We started with weddings, transitioned to a full-service portrait studio, and then refocused on weddings, adding a photo booth rental company to complement our photography business. Fifteen years, we decided the time was right to move to Cedar Rapids, which included being closer to family.
It surprises people to know I’m actually an outgoing, shy, introvert. But when you run your own business, you have put yourself out there. When I’m not photographing, writing for clients, or dealing with all the “behind-the-scenes” stuff that comes with being self-employed, I have four kids to keep me busy. If there is any time left in my day, I run or maybe work on house renovations. There is never enough time.
The Wedding Guide
From the moment I met Nicky, I was excited for the opportunities the Corridor Wedding Guide had to help connect brides and grooms with wedding professionals. As a small business owner myself, I’m passionate about helping other small business owners. It’s very important to me to support local people who are working hard to make a difference in their community. I want to help area wedding professionals to be successful, so I feel that the work I do for the Corridor Wedding Guide is invaluable.
Robyn Aaron, Photographer + Guest Contributor
I’m a hugger! I’m also a Chicago suburbs gal who stayed in Iowa after college + fell in love with a boy from Kansas. We’re total Midwesterners! (Trust me. We tried the east coast for a bit!) I’m also the owner + principal photographer at The Modern Lovebird (formerly Robyn Photo) and will capture my 100th wedding this year! When I set the camera down, I’m probably drinking coffee and snuggling my two daughters or meeting up with friends for sushi + wine. I adore collaborating with incredible couples + colleagues in the wedding industry to create beautiful memories, so I’m so glad to contribute to the Corridor Wedding Guide this year.
Stacie Ricklefs, Photographer + Guest Contributor
Mother. Wife. Artist. Designer. Photographer.
I’m Stacie, an artistic soul throughout!
I love colors and pattern and how they can invoke a feeling or emotion. I’m inspired daily by the most basic of things and love being able to incorporate that into my photography and design. Life is beautiful when you just open your eyes and look around you!
Since childhood I always knew I wanted to be some sort of artist when I grew up. I spent a lot of time as a child drawing, creating and taking pictures on my awesome purple 110 camera that my mom got for me from Avon – guess they are more than just beauty products! And although I don’t feel “grown up” yet, I feel blessed to be able to have accomplished this dream by spending my days as a photographer and designer.
I am inspired everyday by our local venues and talented hard-working wedding professionals.
